Santa Claus
Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas is the traditional bringer of gifts on Christmas Eve.
Santa Claus originally went from house to house, asking if the children had been well behaved. After his visit, the children would leave their shoes outside the doors of their houses and next morning they would find them filled with sweets and gifts from Santa.
Santa's robes were originally decorated with ivy and holly and he would carry a bag of toys with him to reward all well behaved children.
Santa allowed the first drawing of him to be done in 1860 and this showed him as a portly figure with white hair and a long beard, dressed in his red robe, wearing a crown of holly.
In 1930 the Coca Cola Company asked him if he would be their central figure for advertising and of course he said "Yes". He invested in a brand new robe of festive red with white ermine trim, expensive buttons, belt and his fabulous boots.
His reindeer and his elves are his trusted helpers and the elves work all year round to get the children's toys ready for Christmas Eve. There are millions of children in the world and Santa has to visit all of these on Christmas Eve. He has a fantastic sleigh to carry the children's presents and his reindeer pull the sleigh through the night sky. Santa also has magical powers which enable him to get to all the children in the world on this special night.
So don't forget children, leave Santa a mince pie and a drink and don't forget a carrot for the reindeer. Make sure you have been well behaved and Santa is sure to leave gifts for you, just as he has done for so many children over the years.
Have a very Happy Christmas
